What is Camel & Slaughterbridge Protection Project (CSPP)?

CSPP has been set up by a group of Slaughterbridge residents who are objecting to an application by GEL to build a huge industrial plant on a quiet hillside in our hamlet. The site borders the river Camel and an environmentally protected area.

The application was submitted without residents being informed - we were blindsided. GEL has continued to progress their plans even though the site does not meet their requirements and despite expert reports stating HIGH RISK of adverse environmental effects.

We are fighting for proper scrutiny and challenge of these plans.

Our objection to this application is not an objection to Geothermal energy - notwithstanding that it is an expensive and disruptive technology that is not as ‘green’ as proponents like to claim. Our critical objection is that if you were looking for a site to place a geothermal plant, the site at Slaughterbridge would not be it.

In respect of this application, both GEL and Cornwall Council appear to have a selective relationship with the facts. Leaving aside our own exhaustive research and approaches to the Council, we have effectively commissioned four expert, technical opinions (within the body of two overarching reports) which should convince any reader that this is the wrong development in absolutely the wrong place.

So, we just want to start with some verified and irrefutable facts. These facts are extracted from a 116 page evidence-based land survey which GEL had to produce as part of their statutory and regulatory “due diligence” (these are contained in what is called the Groundsure Report).
