Cornwall Cabinet member asks MP if he is going to switch to Reform UK

Plans go before the Strategic Planning Committee (SPC)

On Thursday 10th July, the SPC (a group of 11 Councillors) met in County Hall Truro to consider the LPA’s recommendation to approve the Geothermal planning application. Andrew Macleod and David Stark each gave three minute presentation on the multiple risks and reasons for not permitting the development in this sensitive location. The Councillors discussed the plans and Cllr. Channon proposed a vote to defer the decision on the grounds that they didn’t have a good enough understanding of the technology, risks and implications to be able to make an informed decision, and that there were unresolved differences in the risks as presented by Wardell Armstrong and RMA Consultants. Cllr. Parsons proposed a vote to reject the application. However, as the deferral was called for first, the former vote proceeded and the deferral was passed. An independent Technical Briefing was called for, to provide the required information to the Committee members. A briefing of sorts was provided on 30th July. Our understanding is that it was attended by only 3 of the SPC members, and consisted largely of a presentation by GEL about their operations and aspirations, provided by their public liaison officer, Jane Charman. It provided no new information, made only scant reference to the Tregath site, plans and risks, was not independent, and offered no forum for technical questioning and discussion.

We believe the matter will return to the SPC to be voted on in September (the session will be open to the public) and will post updates when we receive confirmation.
